Unlike veins, which carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart, the arteries carry oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. This is through the circulatory system.

Knowing the arteries (main features)

Arteries are blood vessels that carry the blood with great pressure, since it should reach all parts of the body carrying oxygen and nutrients to all cells.

Maximum blood pressure is known as systolic and occurs when the heart contracts. The minimum is called diastolic and occurs between the contraction intervals.

This variation that occurs in the pressure of the arteries generates the characteristic arterial pulse, which can be easily perceived by checking the pulse and also the neck. Its activity is vital because it indicates whether or not there is cardiac activity.

Regarding their classification, the arteries can be classified as follows:

Pulmonary Arteries - lead the blood without oxygen to the lungs, where the exchange of Co2 for O2 will be performed.

Systemic arteries - lead the blood towards the arterioles and, finally, the capillaries, so that through this, which is the thinnest of all blood vessels, the vital exchanges for the functioning of the organism occur.

Aorta artery - has the largest caliber and receives blood with great pressure directly from the left ventricle of the heart. It is through it that all other arteries branch out.

Arterioles - They help control blood pressure and are responsible for conducting blood to the capillaries, where all the necessary changes to the organic balance occur.
